exhibit is being conducted in concert with my "One Woman Exhibit" at the
Richeson School of Art and Gallery in Kimberly, WI. Open as of April

Come join us!
The watercolor paintings are varied in subject matter. I hope you will enjoy the variety of portraits, florals, landscapes and figures.

I hope you enjoy the show!
This Painting took 3 years to complete. I had big problems with the paint bleeding through the paper. I decided to collage some white rice paper on top of the entire surface and repainted the image. I finished it off by using black ink to bring out the design of the figure, wicker chair and other elements of the painting.

I love using my daughter, Rachel, for my model. I take advantage of her while she is home by photographing her in many different poses. I was intrigued by this image because the light was hitting her from both sides creating interesting shadows across her face.

I had painted this scene of Rachel once before and decided to paint it again only using a closer up view. I had fun playing with the strong shadows on Rachel's face. The addition of casein helped create silky elements, such as the candle, that enhance the transparent quality of the watercolor areas. This painting will not be at the "One Woman Exhibit" since it was just accepted into the Louisiana 36th Annual International Exhibit in New Orleans, LA.

This painting of my daughter, Rachel, is a close up view from the same photo as the painting “Rachel Straight On”. I thought the composition could be stronger if I tightened up the scene. I used the actual interior as the background in this painting. The lighting effects on the figure are accentuated next to the softness of the out of focused background.

This composition was painted during a figure drawing open studio. I kept the colors limited so the viewer would focus on the subject directly.

This painting is from the series of women floating on water. I’m trying to convey the calm and peace of the lake I live by.

I used my daughter Rachel as my model once again. How did she
become a Blonde?

This is the first figure I put into an environment. It opened a new path for
me with my figure work.

The sharp perspective of this figure, moving from one corner to the next, heightens the compositional interest.

This imaginative Italian villa was done as a class project while staying at
La Romita, near Turin, Italy, in the spring of 2005.

We toured this ancient Roman ruin one beautiful day. We had time to
sketch and paint a bit. We finished the paintings back at our
chapel/studio at La Romita.

This imaginative painting is reminiscent of the cypress trees seen all
trough Italy.

I sketched this scene while touring a small village high above a lake we
ate lunch at one day. The sun was so bright that it created great shadow
patterns across the road and up the side of the buildings.

I painted this while sitting outside a great smelling Italian bakery. People
were walking by while I was seated on the sidewalk. They seemed
surprised to come upon us painting what they thought of as a very
ordinary scene. I found it charming.

The group visited Perugia one day. We had time to paint and I found a
great spot that looked down on part of the city from a beautiful park. I
included ink to complete the painting.

The group enjoyed the little hill top town of San Gimini that we went back a
second day to paint. The park at the end of the main street was perfect for
our group to paint from. This church tower really hit me as I was sitting on
the sidewalk looking up at the sharp angle. The cobalt blue sky added to
the drama of the lighting that day.

During the Spain and France trip in the Autumn of 2004, the group took a
boat to the island of Porkorola off the coast of France. Some of the group
rode bikes on the island, some painted and some explored and sat in the
sun along the beach. I sat on the beach to paint this little scene. The day
was very special.

This collage scene is reminiscent of the Colorado Rockies. The yellow
sky reminds me of the beautiful sunset outside Pagosa Springs.

This collage depicts the beautiful mountains and landscapes of
Colorado. I so enjoy this area of the world.

This imaginary scene reminds me of a day I spent painting along the San
Juan River in 2004. The warm aspen trees against the cool evergreens
makes for an interesting color combination.

I enjoy painting from imagination or from memories. This painting came
from a memory of painting along the San Juan River on a beautiful
Autumn day in 2004. The small mountain lake was cool and brilliant with
rich colors.

I taught my 3rd workshop for the Pagosa Springs Arts Council in
September of 2005. This painting was the first scene I demonstrated for
the group outside the Community Center.

This scene was painted at the house of one of the students from the
class just outside Pagosa Springs. The weather was just perfect and the
students had a great day painting outside.

I enjoy using the aspen trees as a strong design element in this painting.
The strong textures of the collage papers helped to create a depth to the
scene.

I enjoyed painting the coral sunset while incorporating the collage papers
for contrast. The ink enhances the detail of the textures in nature.

This collage reflects the area along the Pike River outside Wausaukee,
WI. We like to take walks with our friends the Beach’s who live along the
river. It is a beautiful area that is untouched by civilization.

I love the old time tin canisters used for collecting the sap from the maple
trees. This fall scene has a very tranquil quality to it. The quiet of the day
adds a peaceful note.

I used cobb-webbing to create textures found in nature. Once the paint
dried, I took the cobb-webbing off and started to paint into the textures to
enhance the rocks and background area. Ink was used to enforce the
design quality.

A memory of painting along the coast of Maine was the idea behind this
composition. I enjoyed painting at Prouts Neck, where Winslow Homer
painted many of his famous rock and crashing wave scenes.

I love the trees along the California coast. They seem to have a
personality different from our trees in the Mid-West. Trees growing out of
sand intrigue me.

I painted this composition using a black and white photo. because of that,
I could explore color in anyway I wanted. Somehow, the soft blue needed
to be prominent in this painting.
