Artist's Statement

I consider myself most fortunate to be able to live my life as an artist. This was my dream as a young child. I've never expected anything, such as awards or recognition, yet have always appreciated each and every pat on the back for a job well done.

As an artist, I've always felt a responsibility to share. Through exhibiting my work as well as teaching, I'm able to share lessons I have learned with others who are eager to experience the creative challenge.

My college training was based on formal realism. Through the years, I have challenged myself to go beyond painting what I see by trying to capture what I feel. As an artist, I'm always exploring by trying to set free my inner vision through paint on paper. I hope my work interprets my response to nature and how alive it makes me feel. Over the past five years , I have incorporated the human figure into my landscapes in an attempt to express the natural rhythm of man and nature.

My goal is to create work that speaks from my heart, my inner voice and vision. Hopefully, that work will touch others as well.

Donations

Bernard Peterson Award Donation

I donated a painting to my alma mater of Oshkosh High School on May, 2004. I had won the Bernard Peterson Award which stipulated I donate a painting to a public facility. Instead of donating a painting the value of the award, I decided to give a larger donation on my behalf as well. The painting is titled, "Autumn Colors" and the size is 30"x40". I'm honored to have one of my paintings at Oshkosh West High School.

"Pride of Oshkosh" Project

I teamed up with fellow artist and good friend, Joannie Mosling, to design and create TWO lions for the "Pride of Oshkosh" Project. We began our brainstorming sessions in January concluding with both of our designs being sponsored by Community First Credit Union. We worked on both lions until the very beginning of summer when they were put into place at the entrance of the Credit Union at HWY 21 and Westhaven Dr. "Jigs" and "Jorge" remained there until the auctions began in September.[Jigs is titled, "Walking on the Wild Side" and "Jorge" is titled, "Fur, Fin and Feather"]

I'm proud to report that our two lions raised the most money for the project. A whopping $31,000 went to the fund raising project. The most fun was working with Joannie, through long underwear and heaters in her garage to shorts and sunglasses. Countless hours of work really paid off! Jig's is permanently located at the Discovery Gallery at the Paine Art Center in Oshkosh and Jorge is located in the media center at Carl Treager School, also in Oshkosh.
