Gondola
Venice is a magic place. Gondolas pleasantly replace
cars and motor scooters for transportation. The quiet was wonderful!

Out the Doges Window
Next to the Basilica in Venice, stands the Doges' Palace.
Our tour took us by the window that made the outside alive with color.
I couldn't resist painting the sky coral color because the weather was
extremely hot!

Cortona Wash Day
This woman was just about to take in her laundry but
hesitated to take in the surrounding view of the Cortona countryside
in the late afternoon.

San Gimignano Arches
San Gimignano is a walled village that we climbed to
reach the park at the top which overlooked the town and the Tuscan countryside.
We found shady tables with a nice breeze and decided to paint the afternoon
away.

Lucca Courtyard
While exploring Lucca, we came across the Palazzo Pfanner,
a villa and museum with a charming courtyard and garden. A group of
7 or 8 decided to paint there for the rest of the afternoon. The fountain
was as big as a swimming pool so I decided to use it as the entrance
into the garden composition. While painting, we could watch the people
walking on the wall that surrounds the village.

Siena Tower
It was an extremely hot day when we arrived in Siena
but found the town to be beautiful and energetic. The City Hall tower
stands guard over the Palazzo Pubblico and can be seen from just about
anywhere in the city.

Stresa, Italy
It was hard to believe we could experience the massive
Alps, a glorious Lake and also enjoy tropical vegetation in Northern
Italy! The colorful hydrangeas were the size of soccer balls.

Garden of Isola Bella
The decorative towers and sculptures create a formal
garden. Fountains and flowers round out the over all experience. Featured
in "How did they do that - 100 ways to paint flowers and gardens"

Potter Hydrangea
Hydrangeas are so colorful in Italy. They vary from
pink to deep fuscia, purple to blue! Some are potted as in this painting,
while others are planted in hedges that captivate the eye. These hydrangeas
were in the gardens of Isola Bella.

Floral Walk
Every walkway on Isola Bella is perfectly kept and
has a variety of potted geraniums along the half walls. The sun dappled
wall caught my eye.

Lago Maggiore
Lago Maggiore means, Major Lake or Large Lake. The
early morning air had a slight coolness that made the islands come alive
with a soft purple glow.

Tivoli Garden Entrance
The Tivoli Gardens, Villa d'Este, are a short drive
east of Rome. Cardinal Ippolito d'Este built this extravagant home and
gardens for week end retreats. As you walk out of the home and down
the first set of steps to enter the garden, you are hit by the vast
grandeur and variety the garden has to offer. The scent of jasmine was
intoxicating!

Stairway at Tivoli
The Tivoli garden has hundreds of fountains and all
the water is pumped using gravity. Every stairway had a different look
and theme.
